Prostate diseases occur only in men. There are three diseases that can afflict the prostate gland. These are prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
|DISEASES||DISORDER||HYPOTHESIS||GENERAL SYMPTOM||AGE GROUP|
|Prostatitis||Inflammation||Infection||Pain||< 40 years old|
|BPH||Muscle Enlargement & Inflammation||Muscle Hyper Activity||Urinary Symptoms||> 40 years old|
|Prostate Cancer||Cell Instability & Inflammation||Cellular Mutation||Pain & Urinary Symptoms||50 years old and above|
|Granulomatous Prostatitis||Inflammation & Scar Formation||Infection & Injury||Asymptomatic to Non Specific Symptoms||18-86 years old|
The diseases may be differentiated based on what is wrong with the gland and what causes the disorders. Symptoms are also suggestive for which disorder is predominant. Pain is suggestive for prostatitis, urinary symptoms are that of BPH, and a combination maybe that of cancer. Cancer is seen in the much older age group.
