Prostate diseases occur only in men. There are three diseases that can afflict the prostate gland. These are prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.

The diseases may be differentiated based on what is wrong with the gland and what causes the disorders. Symptoms are also suggestive for which disorder is predominant. Pain is suggestive for prostatitis, urinary symptoms are that of BPH, and a combination maybe that of cancer. Cancer is seen in the much older age group.
